2024 Fantasy Outlook
Blackmon missed two months of action around the middle of last season due to a fractured hand. He was reasonably productive when on the field and particularly so after returning from the injury, slashing .297/.386/.466 over his final 40 contests. That strong finish seemed to convince the Rockies to bring the 37-year-old back for one more season, as they inked him to a one-year extension in late September. With a .905 OPS at home versus just a .666 OPS on the road in 2023, Blackmon returning to Colorado was probably his only shot to retain mixed-league relevancy. Blackmon doesn't offer much power at this point in his career and he's basically a zero on the basepaths. However, he remains a good bet for average and would seem to be in line to bat leadoff again for the Rockies in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Expected to be primary DH
Blackmon is expected to serve as the Rockies' primary designated hitter in 2024, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon signed a one-year, $13 million extension with the Rockies just before the close of the 2023 campaign. Given that financial commitment, he's expected to keep a significant role on the team. Blackmon has stated a desire to play regularly in right field, but manager Bud Black is prioritizing carefully managing the veteran's workload.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hopes to re-up with Rockies
Blackmon would like to return to the Rockies on a big-league contract next season, freelance writer Zach Buchanan reports.
ANALYSIS
He will be a free agent after the season, and Blackmon is unlikely to receive much interest on the open market entering his age-37/38 season. It's possible the Rockies will bring him back on a one-year deal. Blackmon is best suited for designated hitter work at this stage of his career, yet he hasn't posted an ISO above .160 since 2019.

Blackmon hit below .280 in 2021 for the first time since his rookie campaign, and he took another step back last season with a .264/.314/.419 slash line in 135 games. He clubbed 16 home runs and had his walk rate drop nearly four percentage points to 5.7 percent. Blackmon primarily served as a designated hitter but still played 50 games in right field, so he'll retain his positional eligibility. He'll turn 37 years old in July and unsurprisingly exercised his $18 million player option for 2023, but his fantasy utility will likely continue to wane, especially when away from Coors Field (where he had a .793 OPS in 2022).
