NL FAAB Factor: Waiver Pickups of the Week
September 9, 2018
Jan Levine speculates on a closer change in St. Louis and highlights other pickups from the Senior Circuit who could help in the final weeks.
2019 Fantasy Outlook
Trahan survived the winter with his spot on the Cincinnati's 40-man roster, but he's only holding on by a thread. Now 25 years old, Trahan has done next to nothing at the upper levels of the minors, posting OPS marks of .585 and .629 the last two years at Double-A and Triple-A, respectively. By wRC+, he was 18% worse than league average at the plate last year with Louisville, striking out 20.4% of the time while chipping in a total of 20 extra-base hits (two homers) in 510 plate appearances. The 2015 third-round pick does have some speed as evidenced by his 25 steals in 2016, but he's never had good success rates and his stolen-base total fell to a mere six last season. At best, Trahan is a utility infielder. It seems more likely that Trahan gets designated for assignment in-season than it does Trahan gets any significant run with the Reds, even if disaster strikes in the Queen City.
