FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Aaron Nola, PHI vs MIL ($9,100) – This is no slight against Chris Sale, but Nola is significantly cheaper and has more room for error because of the discount. Nola has averaged over 49 points in his past five starts, which is just three points less than Sale's season average. The matchup here is favorable for Nola, as well, as he gets a reeling Brewers lineup that enters with the third highest K% against righties this season.

Catcher

Gary Sanchez, NYY at SEA ($3,300)Andrew Moore takes the mound for the Mariners, and although he has three quality starts in four outings, his ERA sits at 5.25. If that isn't an indictment of the lax standards of a quality start, then I don't know what is. The Yankees should fare well against Moore — especially Sanchez, who enters with a .378 wOBA against righties this season.

First Base

Joey Votto, CIN vs MIA ($3,900)Jose Urena takes the mound for the Marlins and although his 3.93 ERA is decent, he's struggled over his past three starts. Urena has allowed 10 runs over 13 innings in those three starts and he's in a tough spot against the Reds. One reason he might be in trouble is Votto, who enters with a .424 wOBA against righties this season, which is seventh in the majors.

Second Base

Jose Altuve, HOU vs BAL ($4,100) – In lieu of listing all the Astros here against Ubaldo Jimenez, I'll cap it at the two best options. Altuve enters with a .410 wOBA against righties this season and 17 of his 19 stolen bases have come off righties, as well.

Shortstop

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU at BAL ($3,500) – Gonzalez has produced at a high level all season, but it was often difficult to find room for him while he was at first base because of all the great options there. At shortstop, however, there aren't nearly as many quality options and with Trea Turner and teammate Carlos Correa on the DL, the position is pretty thin. Gonzalez has a great matchup against Jimenez, entering with a team-leading .420 wOBA against righties this season.

Third Base

Mike Moustakas, KC vs CHW ($3,200)James Shields started the season well, allowing only three runs over his first three starts, but he's allowed four or more runs in three of his past four. Kansas City hasn't been great against righties this season, but Moustakas enters with a .361 wOBA against them.

Outfield

Giancarlo Stanton, MIA at CIN ($4,300)Homer Bailey enters with a 10.12 ERA through five starts, and believe it or not, we still aren't sure if he's terrible or not because the Nationals are responsible for 16 of his 24 earned runs this season. Whatever the case, Stanton should have no problem getting to Bailey as he enters with a .387 wOBA against righties this season.

Chris Taylor, LAD vs ATL ($3,800) – Jamie Garcia pitched well in his most recent outing, but prior to that, he was on a terrible streak where he surrendered five or more runs in four consecutive starts. It's yet to be determined if he's righted the ship or if his most recent start was an aberration. If he's not pitching at a high level, he's in trouble against a potent Dodgers lineup. When facing lefties, Taylor is actually one of the most dangerous bats on the team, as he holds a .466 wOBA against southpaws this season.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs SD ($5,100) – Blackmon is usually a great option at home, but this entry serves as both a recommendation for Blackmon and a reminder that the Rockies have been mashing lately. Trevor Williams takes the mound with a 4.57 ERA, which isn't terrible, but average pitchers usually struggle at Coors Field. Blackmon enters with a .411 wOBA against righties this season.
