ANALYSIS
A 2015 second-round draft pick of the Thunder, Johnson finally made his NBA debut this past season and saw the court in 31 games. However, he's was merely emergency depth in the frontcourt and averaged just 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds across 5.2 minutes. After being traded twice this offseason, Johnson was ultimately waived by the Grizzlies at the end of August and struggled to field much interest elsewhere in the league. Instead, he'll head to China with the hope of restoring his value and potentially earning a contract with an NBA club down the line.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2015
Johnson spent the past two seasons with the Oklahoma City Blue where he started in 96 of 99 games, averaging an impressive 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 blocks on 28.3 minutes per game. His stellar play was awarded by way of a guaranteed two-year contract with the Thunder this past July, meaning he’s in line for a reserve role off the bench behind Steven Adams and Enes Kanter in the season ahead. Minutes will be scarce for the seven-footer, but he’ll have every chance to establish himself within the rotation as the season progresses.
Johnson was the 48th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. At Kentucky, he had his minutes limited because the roster was stacked, and Kentucky coach John Calipari opted to run a ludicrously deep rotation to accomodate all the swag-players he recruited. Johnson has considerable size, towering at 7-feet-0 and weighing in at 255 pounds. He ended his sophomore season averaging 6.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, 0.7 assists, and 0.4 steals in 16 minutes per game through 39 games. His best assets are his size and rebounding. During the Orlando Summer League, he recorded the third-best rebounding average with 8.6 boards per game. Johnson's potential lies in his ability to protect the rim and develop a strong inside-offensive game. He's buried on the depth chart behind Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, Serge Ibaka, Mitch McGary, and Nick Collison, so it's hard to imagine that new head coach Billy Donovan will have much use for Johnson in his rookie season. It's more probably that Johnson spends the majority of the season in the D-League with the OKC Blue.
