The Angels optioned Detmers to Triple-A Salt Lake following Saturday's 9-0 loss to the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Making his 12th start of the season Saturday, Detmers dropped to 3-6 after he surrendered five earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings. He began the season as one of the Angels' top starters and picked up wins in each of his first three starts, striking out 26 batters with two runs allowed across 17.1 innings. However, he hasn't gotten in the win column since. Outside of a decent 20.7 percent strikeout rate across his subsequent nine starts, nothing has been working for Detmers lately, as he's allowed 10 long balls and 21 walks over that stretch. The 24-year-old was a reliable arm for the Angels over the past two seasons, and it's possible that a Triple-A stint will help the southpaw regain some confidence and find his previous form.
