NHL Barometer: Not So Super Trouba

This article is part of our NHL Barometer series.

This week's article includes he's a bad mama Cam-malleri, getting Nash-ty on Broadway, a big loss for the blue, blanc et rouge and Super Trouba not so super.

First Liners (Risers)

Matt Duchene, C, COL - Duchene tied Claude Lemieux (1995-96) for most goals by an Avalanche player in a month, notching his 10th in November on Monday. After not tallying a point his first four games of the season, Duchene has 19 his last 17 games. Duchene notched 55 points as a rookie in 2009-10 as well as 70 in 2013-14, so he has shown he can be a profiler producer. He struggled a bit last year but looks to be having the rebound campaign many predicted.

Ryan Getzlaf, C, ANA -
Getzlaf, after a very slow start, looks to be rounding into form. He had five assists Tuesday giving him a goal -- his first of the season -- and eight assists his last five games. Getzlaf has meshed with Rickard Rakell, his new left winger, alongside Corey Perry, which bodes well for him to remain hot. However, the mild slide that began last year could continue this season, as the 70 points he notched last year could be his upper bound.

Mike Cammalleri, LW, NJD -

However, the mild slide that began last year could continue this season, as the 70 points he notched last year could be his upper bound.

Mike Cammalleri, LW, NJD -
Last week, I profiled Lee Stempniak. This week, his linemate gets the bold treatment. Cammalleri scored his seventh goal of the season and added two assists Sunday against the Canucks. He added an assist Wednesday versus the Blue Jackets, giving him eight points in his last four games. Cammalleri had 80 and 82 points his second and fourth years in the league, but since then, he has only shown flashes of scoring, as injuries impacted his production. Now healthy, he has seven goals and 22 points in 21 games on the season.

Patrick Sharp, LW, DAL -
Sharp had a disappointing 2014-15 season in Chicago, scoring 43 points in 68 games while his ice time fell by two minutes a game. His drop in production and especially his high salary made him a trade target and he eventually was dealt to Dallas. The move to Texas has panned out nicely for Sharp, who has eight goals and 10 assists in 22 games while skating as the first line right winger.

Rick Nash, LW, NYR -
Nash had 42 goals last season, scoring most of those the first part of the year. He added 14 points in 19 playoff games, seven of those points coming in two contests, which once again raised the question as to whether Nash was a playoff performer. This year, Nash got off to a slow start, creating a murmur among Rangers' fans hoping for him to get dealt. He has changed the conversation, tallying a hat trick Saturday along with goal Monday and Wednesday.

Alexander Edler, D, VAN -
Edler had a mild bounceback season last year, rebounding from a minus-39 to a plus-13 along with going from 22 to 31 points. This season, he has 13 points in 22 games, including two goals and eight points in his last nine games. Edler is seeing copious amount of time on the power play with the Sedin twins, resulting in six points already on the man advantage.

Justin Faulk, D, CAR -
Faulk is in the midst of a great stretch, recording nine points in his last eight games. In addition, all eight of his goals have come on the man advantage, setting a career high already in the category. Faulk took a major step forward with 15 goals and 34 assists a year ago. With eight goals and nine assists in 22 games, those career highs could be exceeded this year.

Ben Bishop, G, TB -
Bishop has righted the ship following a slight rough patch. After losing five in a row, Bishop has gone 4-0-1 in his last five games, including his first shutout of the season Saturday. Bishop allowed one goal or fewer in four of those five games and is now 9-7-2 with an goals-against average near two and .925 save percentage. The latter two numbers are better than those he posted in his breakout campaign a year ago.

Jonathan Quick, G, LA -
Quick made 29 saves in falling 2-1 in overtime to the Lightning on Wednesday. That loss made Quick 10-7-1 on the year but inched his GAA close to the 2.24 and save percentage near the .918 he posted a year ago. Los Angeles is in an early battle to lead the Pacific Division, with a big reason for their 13-8-2 mark the play of Quick.

Others include Leon Draisaitl, Claude Giroux, Tyler Seguin, Evgeni Malkin, Mikael Granlund, Ryan O'Reilly, Tyler Bozak, David Krejci, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Joe Pavelski, Artem Anisimov, Jeff Carter, Jamie Benn, Rickard Rakell, Boone Jenner, Lee Stempniak, Mats Zuccarello, Mike Hoffman, Corey Perry, Kyle Okposo, Justin Williams, Thomas Vanek, Brad Marchand, Max Pacioretty, Taylor Hall, Kevin Shattenkirk, P.K. Subban, Brent Burns, Ryan Suter, Erik Karlsson, Jared Spurgeon, John Klingberg, Kris Letang, Brent Seabrook, Shayne Gostisbehere, John Gibson, Henrik Lundqvist, Braden Holtby, Cory Schneider and Corey Crawford.

Training Room (Injuries)

Patrik Elias, LW, NJD - Elias, out with a knee injury, made his season debut Wednesday against the Flyers. He slotted in alongside Jacob Josefson and Stefan Matteau for the game. Elias, who once was a prolific scorer, had 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 69 games last season, so expect similar production this season given his line placement.

Brendan Gallagher, RW, MTL -
Gallagher, who was taking the next step forward in his career this season posting 19 points in 22, broke two fingers after getting struck on his left hand Sunday against the Islanders. He underwent surgery to repair the injury, which is expected to sideline him six weeks. Devante Smith-Pelly is getting the first chance to replace Gallagher on the top line.

Carey Price, G, MTL -
Price, out since suffering a lower-body injury on Oct. 29, returned Nov. 20. That returned may be short-lived, as he left Wednesday's game against the Rangers with a right leg injury sustained when pushing across the crease in the second period.

Others include Tyler Johnson (UBI, returned to lineup Wednesday), Brad Richards (back, out since Oct. 21, activated), Jonathan Drouin (undisclosed, no set timeframe), Sam Gagner (UBI, out one more week), Nail Yakupov (leg, undisclosed), Evander Kane (knee, activated), Justin Schultz (back, out since Oct. 25, due back Saturday), Ondrej Pavelec (knee sprain, out till at least January), Kari Lehtonen (UBI, DTD) and Semyon Varlamov (groin, activated off IR).

Fourth Liners/Press Boxers (Fallers)

Valtteri Filppula, C, TB - Filppula had 58 points in 75 games his first year in Tampa, taking advantage of Steven Stamkos' injury. Last year, with Tyler Johnson centering the second line as part of the triplets, Filppula slipped to 48 points and a minus-14 rating. This season, Filppula looks to be declining even more, notching just nine points in 23 games while seeing his ice time drop nearly two minutes a game.

Alexander Semin, RW, MTL -
I admit that I was one of those who thought Semin's one year, $1.1 million signing by Montreal was a steal for the Canadiens. It appears as if didn't consider enough how volatile of a mix coach Michel Thierrien and Semin would be, as Semin has already been a healthy scratch in several games. In addition, he suffered an undisclosed injury Wednesday against the Rangers.

Jacob Trouba, D, WPG -
Super Trouba has been anything but super this year, continuing his struggles of a year ago. Trouba went from 29 to 22 points last season plus looked a lot less effective on the ice. Those issues were attributed to growing pains and how defensemen's growth is not linear. This season, he has been moved to the second pairing and seen his ice time drop by more than three minutes ago while his PP TOI has dropped to less than half-a-minute a game. Questions have already started to be asked if Trouba will ever become the top tier D-man that was predicted for him when he joined the league.

Karri Ramo, G, CGY -
Tuesday was Ramo's 11th straight start, but he has been anything but consistent. Ramo has allowed at least four goals in four of those starts, going 6-5 in the 11 games. Jonas Hiller is inching closer to returning,a dn when that happens Ramp may be relegated back to the bench.

Others include Ryan Kesler, Zemgus Girgensons, Ryan Johansen, Sean Couturier, Bo Horvat, Jiri Tlusty, Jakob Silfverberg, Chris Kunitz, Marian Hossa, Chris Kreider, Dennis Seidenberg, Victor Hedman, Eric Gelinas, Dougie Hamilton, Reto Berra and Cam Talbot.
