NHL Waiver Wire: Players of Interest

This article is part of our NHL Waiver Wire series.

The Sabres, Flames, Red Wings, Panthers, Kings, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Lightning and Jets all have four games this week, and the Flyers have five contests. Here is some quick-hit analysis on fantasy options to consider from these teams.

Buffalo: The Sabres are missing key cogs (Jack Eichel and Evander Kane), and the shallow lineup doesn't offer a lot of encouraging fantasy assets. Sam Reinhart sticks out as the only potential grab that can help out. He's going to receive top-six minutes and power-play time, too.

Calgary: Alex Chiasson moved to the top line for parts of Saturday's game, and he practiced alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan on Monday. He has the third-wheel appeal, but if he doesn't stick with Gaudreau and Monahan, Chiasson has very limited fantasy value. Dennis Wideman moves the needle across all categories and has a respectable 10 shots on net already.

Detroit: Tomas Tatar has a goal, a helper and 16 shots with an average of 4:16 of power-play time over his past four games, which makes him a strong add. Frans Nielsen has started a little slow (one goal and two assists), but is locked into an offensive role, and all Andreas Athanasiou needs is some ice time to become an excellent fantasy contributor. Athanasiou is a speculative flier for the four-game week.

Florida: Jonathan Marchessault is still widely available despite a sterling start to the season. He should be owned

Florida: Jonathan Marchessault is still widely available despite a sterling start to the season. He should be owned universally. Also, Michael Matheson warrants a look since he may be able to help with an extra game this week. James Reimer will see a start and remains a high-quality backup and streaming option.

Los Angeles: The offensive options from the Kings are extremely limited and most worth owning aren't going to be available. Tanner Pearson could be the exception. He's seeing plenty of power-play time (3:03 per night) and has four goals already.

Montreal: Jeff Petry registered multi-point showings in his first two games of the season, and he is playing 21:17 per night (2:20 with the man advantage). He also offers nice peripheral coverage with seven shots, nine hits and eight blocked shots over four games. Nathan Beaulieu has parlayed his strong exhibition play into the regular season with two helpers and a plus-7 rating through five games. Up front, Tomas Plekanec and Artturi Lehkonen are playing on the second line and offer some upside.

Philadelphia: With five games this week, both Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth are going to see action in the crease, and both could be on your waiver wire. Up front, Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny are both off to excellent starts and widely available. Ivan Provorov has averaged 20:02 with 2:13 of power-play time thus far and picked up three helpers over five games. The rookie defenseman is also worth a look in deeper leagues.

Tampa Bay: Take a look at Vladislav Namestnikov. He scored a goal and added an assist on Saturday and spent the majority of the game with Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. The trio remained in tact at practice Monday. Andrei Vasilevskiy should receive another start this week, too.

Toronto: Amazingly, Mitch Marner is still available in most leagues. He's not killing it offensively with just a goal and two assists through five games, but his 14 shots, six penalty minutes and nine blocked shots highlight he's more than just a scorer. Nikita Zaitsev and previously mentioned Jake Gardiner are potential blue liners to consider for the week.

Winnipeg: A rough start has Connor Hellebuyck's ownership down, but he's too talented not to turn it around. Expect the save percentage to climb, and he should be owned in most leagues and not just viewed as a streamer. Nikolaj Ehlers is been bumped from the top line, and he hasn't been overly impressive to start the year (one goal and one assist through five games), but talent isn't a concern.
