Takes decision after weight miss
LightweightUFC
April 27, 2024
Onama defeated Jonathan Pearce via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 55 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Onama's performance would have looked much better had he not missed weight by 2.5 pounds Friday morning. He was definitely the more effective striker, as most would have predicted at the start of the evening. On the flip side, he allowed five takedowns to Pearce, but to Onama's credit, he was constantly working to get off of his back and was credited with five reversals. In essence, that won him the fight, because if he stayed planted on the mat for any significant length of time, Pearce likely would have taken the decision. The 29-year-old Factory X product needs to get the weight cutting issues under control, but it's impossible to argue with the recent results. Onama has won five of his last six dating back to February 2022.

Onama weighed in 2.5 pounds heavy ahead of Saturday's bout with Jonathan Pearce at UFC Vegas 91, MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Onama will forfeit 20 percent of his fight purse after coming in 2.5 pounds over the featherweight limit. The 29-year-old American, who is 3-2 during his UFC career, will look to continue building his resume in his first fight since June of 2023.

Onama will fight Jonathan Pearce at UFC Vegas 91 on April 27, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Onama emerged victorious over Gabriel Santos during his last fight in June -- Onama's first victory since July 2022 -- and he'll now prepare to take on Pearce, who recently had a five-fight win streak come to an end. Onama holds a three-inch reach advantage over Pearce.
Not facing Alexander

Onama will no longer face Lucas Alexander at UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday due to an undisclosed injury, he disclosed via his personal Twitter account.
ANALYSIS
Onama was looking to pick up his fourth win in his last five trips to the Octagon, but injury will keep him from the opportunity. The UFC will apparently search for a new opponent for Alexander in the meantime.
Set to face Alexander
LightweightUFC
September 19, 2023
Onama will take on Lucas Alexander in a lightweight bout at a UFC event on Nov. 4 in Sao Paolo, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Onama is coming off an upset of Gabriel Santos back in June, and he'll look to keep the momentum going in what will be his sixth UFC bout. He'll look to string together consecutive victories for the first time in his UFC career and his opponent Alexander is also coming off a victory, besting Steven Peterson via unanimous decision.
Pulls upset of Gabriel Santos
LightweightUFC
June 24, 2023
Onama defeated Gabriel Santos via KO (punch) at 4:13 of Round 2 at UFC on ABC 5 on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.
ANALYSIS
It's not how you start, it's how you finish. Onama had his moments in Round 1, but it was Santos who was the aggressor and nearly ended the fight with a pair of deep submission attempts. The gap appeared to be closing late in Round 2, at which point Onama blasted a clearly exhausted Santos with an uppercut that found its mark, followed by a follow-up shot which knocked the Brazilian out cold. Onama is a roller coaster, even on a round-by-round basis, but it's impossible to argue with the results thus far. He's 3-1 in his past four bouts, with all three wins coming via stoppage. He'll also take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts here.
