2016 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson burst onto the scene in 2015 with a 14-strikeout performance for High-A San Jose in August. That was one of many strong starts from the former third-round pick that led to a 2.43 ERA, 9.0 K/9 and an eventual promotion to Double-A Richmond towards the end of the season. Prior to 2015, nothing in his numbers screamed "prospect," but his newfound success has officially put him on the map. Johnson's arsenal features a mid-90s fastball that is easily his best pitch. His off-speed pitches leave much to be desired, and without improvement, could steer him into the bullpen sooner rather than later. For now, the Giants will likely continue to treat him as a starter, and a strong showing in the minors this season would go a long way toward cementing him in that role.
