Crouse signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Thursday, Jared Tims of the Talkin' Halos podcast reports.
ANALYSIS
Crouse was a prospect of some notoriety a few years back with the Rangers but has struggled with performance and health since then. He made two appearances with the Phillies in 2021 but has been limited to a combined 34.1 innings over the last two years in the minors because of injuries. Crouse is evidently healthy now and is still just 25, so the Angels will see what he has in the tank.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

Nobody likes Crouse's delivery -- high-effort, upright and finished with a pronounced head whack -- but he has premium stuff and has yet to go through notable struggles in pro ball. He logged a 23.8 K-BB%, 2.63 FIP and 0.95 WHIP as one of the youngest pitchers in the Northwest League, but his production dipped after a late-season promotion to Low-A. Crouse was still successful at preventing runs, but his strikeout rate fell from 31.1% to 19.7% and his walk rate jumped from 7.3% to 10.5%. He does not generate groundballs at a high clip, so he will need to miss a lot of bats as he climbs the ladder. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound righty's delivery is atypical, but also deceptive, which allows his mid-90s fastball to play up as an elite pitch. His slider has a chance to develop into a second plus offering, while his changeup projects to be closer to a 50-grade pitch. Crouse could be a high-end reliever or a No. 2 starter, depending on how his command develops.
