The San Antonio Spurs defeated the host Utah Jazz, 118-111, at Vivint Arena on Wednesday. San Antonio held the lead for all but 23 seconds in this game, thanks to a 29-15 first quarter. They got their lead up to 19 points at times, with Utah never attempting a game-tying shot after the opening five minutes. The Spurs shot 51 percent from the field and 49 percent from three-point range while holding the Jazz to 47 percent from the field and 37 percent from long range. San Antonio out-assisted Utah, 40-25. They also outscored Utah in fastbreak points, 23-13. The Spurs (17-56) were led by Devin Vassell, finishing with 31 points, four rebounds and six assists. Victor Wembanyama had 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five blocks. Jeremy Sochan amassed 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists and five steals. Justin Champagnie and Malaki Branham had 17 points apiece. The Jazz (29-44) were led by Collin Sexton, collecting 26 points, two rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Lauri Markkanen had 25 points, six rebounds and two assists. John Collins compiled 18 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Keyonte George generated 14 points and eight assists. Trey Hendricks rounded out the starting lineup with eight points, eight rebounds and two steals. Both teams return to action on Friday, with Utah remaining home to play the Houston Rockets and San Antonio returning home to face the New York Knicks.
