Lawson was a first round pick in 2016, and even though he has never been able to emerge as a superstar he has proven himself as a solid contributor. He'll rotate in as a reserve Defensive End. Read Past Outlooks

Lawson was listed as a full participant Friday after missing Thursday's practice session due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Lawson has become a role player at this stage of his career with just 13 tackles -- including 1.0 sacks -- on the season while exceeding 50 percent of the defensive snaps in only two games. Nevertheless, the Bills' defensive line has stood out all season amid a banged-up defense, so having a good rotational piece like Lawson available can only help.

No lock for roster spot
DEBuffalo Bills
July 10, 2023
Lawson could be a roster casualty for the Bills this preseason, Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Even with Von Miller potentially starting the season on the PUP list, Buffalo has a wealth of pass-rushing options that includes Greg Rousseau, Leonard Floyd and A.J. Epenesa. Lawson has never really lived up to his draft status after being the 16th overall pick in 2016, and the 29-year-old managed only 4.5 sacks in 29 games over the last two seasons between the Jets and Bills. He'll likely be competing with Shane Ray for the final spot in the defensive end rotation.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2016
Lawson started for the Bills defense in 10 of 11 games last year, sacking the quarterback four times, defending a couple passes, and forcing a fumble. His feet are sufficiently wet at this point. It's time to see what the former first-round draft pick can do in his third NFL campaign.
Now healthy, the 2016 first-rounder should enjoy the new 4-3 defense that he's far more familiar with compared to Rex Ryan's 3-4. Lawson will start at end across from Jerry Hughes and might not come off the field that much considering there's not much experience behind those two quality pass rushers. The Bills might have a nasty D-Line if everyone stays healthy this season, as Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams form a pretty lethal interior pair.
Buffalo's 2016 first-round selection, Lawson will be an immediate starter on the defensive front, if and when he's fully healthy. However, after pre-draft concerns, the Clemson product underwent shoulder surgery in May, and could begin his rookie season on the sidelines. The Bills are relying on a few of their draft picks, most notably Lawson, to re-energize a pass rush that fell on hard times in 2015.
