Wood (neck) was released by the Bills with an injury settlement on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wood announced his intention to retire due to a neck injury earlier in the offseason, but he still remained on the Bills roster until Thursday as he continued with rehab. Now a free agent, the veteran center could sign with another club, though that would be a shocking turn of events.

Still in his prime, Eric Wood returns in 2015 to anchor a solid Bills offensive line.
Wood is entrenched as the starting center on a solid squad. He is regarded by some as one of the top centers in the game.
A bright spot on the Bills' offense is center Eric Wood. He is considered one of the up-and-coming interior offensive linemen in the NFL and has a bright future.
Wood, who suffered a torn right ACL in November, is still progressing and should be somewhat close to 100 percent by the time the regular season rolls around. Wood will practice with the team in July and August, but won't take every rep, with the goal having him close to full health come Week 1. As one of the league's better centers, his (healthy) presence is of pretty big importance to making the complex Buffalo offense run smooth.
One of the league's better young offensive linemen, Wood will move to the starting center role this season after starting his career as a right guard. He should be a mainstay on the Buffalo O-Line for years to come.
Wood suffered a gruesome broken leg in late November and wasn't a sure thing to start the 2010 season healthy, but those odds keep getting better and better as the summer rolls along. The promising youngster will start at right guard for his second season assuming he doesn't have any setbacks.
Wood was the second of the Bills' two first-round picks in May (28th overall). He played mostly center at Louisville, but he'll move to guard in pros. Wood could even start at right guard in his first season. Right now he's in a close competition with Seth McKinney for that spot.
