Has chance with Chiefs

Parkey (groin) received a tryout with the Chiefs on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Parkey was last with the Saints in 2021, ultimately ending up on IR and reaching an injury settlement with the team. Now healthy, Parkey was given the opportunity to earn a chance with the Chiefs, as they prepare to possibly be without Harrison Butker (ankle) on Thursday. However, the Chiefs signed Matt Ammendola, who was also present at the tryout, to their practice squad instead.

Parkey has kicked for five teams in seven pro seasons, converting 84.6 percent of field-goal attempts and 94.3 percent of PATs. He's tried just 10 kicks from 50-plus yards, making eight, and didn't have any attempts from that range for Cleveland last year. Parkey was placed on IR by the Browns in August due to a quad injury.
Parkey rebounded from a down 2016 campaign in Cleveland with a strong season for the Dolphins, though his volume was rather limited on a team that went 6-10. His new home offers more long-term upside, but the Chicago offense likely will need time to figure things out while integrating all the new coaches and players. He has some upside, if only due to the possibility Mitchell Trubisky becomes a star.
Parkey ended the 2016 season as the Browns undisputed kicker, making 20 of 25 field goal and 20 of 21 extra points. After being supplanted by Zane Gonzalez Parkey was waived and will now handle Miami's kicking job, replacing Andrew Franks.
Parkey started only three games last season before suffering a season-ending groin injury, and he goes into training camp this year competing with Caleb Sturgis, who took over the job last year. Sturgis has never been a terribly accurate kicker, and Parkey’s last full season saw him hit 88.9 percent of his field goals en route to helping the Eagles score the second-most kicker points in the league. With a new coaching staff, it’s unclear if the Eagles will be able to greatly improve offensively, but Parkey’s accuracy should make him a decent fantasy option if the volume of kicks increases from last year.
The Eagles had the third-highest scoring offense in the league last year, helping Parkey finish second in points (third in field-goals made, second in PATs). Philadelphia wasn't particularly good in the red zone, scoring touchdowns on only 49.1 percent (23rd) of its drives, but the Eagles gave Parkey a lot of red-zone drives to work with, ranking 10th with 3.7 per game. And he finished off a lot of those drives, going 24-of-26 from less than 40 yards. Coach Chip Kelly loves the two-point conversion, or at least he did. After attempting a league-high eight in 2013, the Eagles attempted none last year. But this season's new extra-point rules could entice Kelly to go for two more often. Even if so, it won't impact Parkey too much, as he still figures to be in the upper-tier of fantasy production.
Added to compete with incumbent kicker Alex Henery, Parkey finished the preseason strong and ended up claiming the Eagles' kicking job. Working behind Chip Kelly's offense, Parkey has a chance to emerge as a viable fantasy lineup option, assuming he maintains his grip on his new assignment.
