DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Jimmy Howard, DET vs. BUF ($7,900): The veteran enters in strong form with two goals or fewer allowed in each of his past four outings and sports a .930 save percentage and 2.32 GAA for the campaign. Buffalo has scored the second fewest goals per game (2.44) and generated the fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (8.7) at five-on-five. There's a risk he's a chalky selection, but with just two games on the docket, there aren't many avenues to variety.

CENTER

Henrik Zetterberg, DET vs. BUF ($5,300): With just three assists through his past 11 contests, this checks out as a buy-low spot for the veteran. Zetterberg recorded 2.52 points per 60 minutes last season, so his current 1.92 mark has some positive regress ahead. Additionally, skating with scorching hot Anthony Mantha at five-on-five should help No. 40 in red.

Brandon Dubinsky, CLM vs. NYR ($3,900): The long-time Ranger is ranked highly by the RotoWire lineup optimizer for this soft matchup against New York. Dubinsky has recorded two goals and five points through his pas seven outings and is projected to skate with the No. 2 power-play unit Friday. Still, the real selling point is that the Rangers are allowing the most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (13.06) at five-on-five in the league.

WING

Pavel Buchnevich, NYR at CLM ($6,300): Locked into a top offensive role, Buchnevich is on a dominant tear with seven goals, 12 points and 30 shots through his past 10 games. The Blue Jackets are a daunting matchup with just 9.9 high-danger scoring chances allowed per 60 minutes, but in a shallow player pool, it's difficult to fade the high-end talents.

Anthony Mantha, DET vs. BUF ($6,200): With an impressive 1.82 goals and 3.46 points per 60 minutes this season and six goals, 11 points and 20 shots through his past eight outings, Mantha is a strong lean. Additionally, the Sabres have allowed 4.0 goals per road game and own the fifth highest expected goals against away from KeyBank Center.

Cam Atkinson, CLM vs. NYR ($6,100): Currently sporting a five-game goal drought, facing the Rangers is exactly what Atkinson needs to snap out of his scoring funk. As noted, it's a ripe matchup and because of his recent struggles, Atkinson could go under-owned despite skating in a go-to offensive role.

DEFENSE

Zach Werenski, CLM vs. NYR ($5,000): The power-play quarterback scored last time out and checks out at an affordable price considering his upside and matchup. Additionally, Werenski also offers a respectable fantasy floor through his high shot volume (2.68 per contest) and hefty role (22:29 of ice time per game with 3:04 on the power play).

Mike Green, DET vs. BUF ($4,400): The veteran has seen an increased role this season and enters this tilt with six assists through his past six games. Additionally, Green has recorded an impressive 2.29 points per 60 minutes, which is seventh best among all defensemen with at least 300 minutes. His salary doesn't match his strong offensive numbers, either.
