Withdraws from UFC Sao Paulo fight
HeavyweightUFC
August 6, 2018
Godbeer has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming matchup against Luis Henrique due to an undisclosed injury, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear exactly what is afflicting Godbeer at this time, but his light heavyweight debut will have to be put on hold for a later date. In his place, the UFC will call upon Ryan Spann to step in and make his UFC debut on short notice.
205-pound debut booked
HeavyweightUFC
June 27, 2018
Godbeer will make his light heavyweight debut against Luis Henrique at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Godbeer announced his move to the 205-pound division last week, and now he has his first light heavyweight bout booked. He'll face another converted heavyweight in Luis Henrique, who is also looking to reinvent himself after coming off back-to-back losses to Arjan Bhullar and Marcin Tybura. Godbeer will have the upper hand if he's able to keep this fight standing, as he sports a superior striking differential and striking volume to Henrique. That may be a challenge, however, as Goodbeer's takedown defense sits at just 28 percent across four UFC bouts, and Henrique averages 2.85 per 15 minutes of fight time.
Announces move to light heavyweight
HeavyweightUFC
June 21, 2018
Godbeer announced via his personal Twitter account that he intends to move from heavyweight to light heavyweight.
ANALYSIS
Godbeer is 2-2 in the UFC as a heavyweight, with both losses coming by way of rear-naked choke. Now armed with a new contract, the 34-year-old intends to make a run in a shallower division. He's listed at 240 pounds on his FightMetric page, so although the weight cut will be more difficult, it should be manageable with a few adjustments to his body. His next fight contract looks to be signed, but the opponent and card have yet to be announced.
Defeated on home turf via rear-naked choke in Round 2
HeavyweightUFC
March 17, 2018
Godbeer was defeated by Dmitriy Sosnovskiy via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:29 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
Godbeer seemed to have a strategy to drag the fight into the later rounds as Sosnovskiy has only been out of the first round in two of ten professional fights. He did a good job of keeping Sosnovskiy in his guard in the first round and avoiding significant damage. However, he was taken down again in the second round, and when the fighters were stood up by the referee he was hurt by a punch from the debuting Russian. As he came forward, visibly wobbled, Godbeer was taken down and mounted. He gave up his back to avoid absorbing punches from the mount and was forced to tap to the rear-naked choke.
New opponent for London
HeavyweightUFC
February 7, 2018
Updating a previous report, Goodbeer will now be taking on Dmitriy Sosnovskiy in a heavyweight battle at UFC London on March 17, ESPN UK reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodbeer had originally been booked against Dmitry Poberezhets, but Poberezhets withdrew due to injury and had to be replaced. The replacement will be a 28-year-old Russian who is making his UFC debut, so the fact Godbeer will get a newcomer on his home turf remains unchanged. Given the fact that Godbeer has some UFC experience (and even a few wins), he should remain the betting favorite.
