Strong showing in title defeat
FlyweightUFC
May 4, 2024
Erceg came up short in his quest for the UFC Flyweight Championship on Saturday, falling to Alexandre Pantoja via unanimous decision (47-48, 47-48, 46-49) at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
A member of the UFC roster for less than a year and competing in just his fourth fight with the company, Erceg proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is one of the best flyweights in the world, and he may very well have walked out with the title if not for some questionable decisions in Round 5. Erceg gave up a whopping nine takedowns, but didn't allow Pantoja to dominate from top position and managed to work his way back to his feet most every time. He was the better striker throughout the course of the bout, but went for a couple of questionable takedowns of his own in the final frame which allowed the champion to reverse position and grind his way to the final bell. Still just 28 years of age and competing in a division which has next to no high-quality depth, Erceg would appear to be a lock to find himself in the title conversation for quite a while.

Set to take Pantoja in title fight
FlyweightUFC
March 15, 2024
Erceg will challenge Alexandre Pantoja for the UFC Flyweight Championship at UFC 301 on May 4, Danny Segura of MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Erceg remains perfect at the UFC level, and the 28-year-old Aussie will prove his worth in a colossal matchup against Pantoja, who's on a five-fight winning streak and has already defended his title once. Undoubtedly, this will be Erceg's toughest test to date, as his previous fights were against Matt Schnell, Alessandro Costa and David Dvorak.

March 2, 2024
Erceg defeated Matt Schnell via KO (punch) at 0:26 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Erceg entered with just one knockout win in his pro career, which seems laughable considering how easily and emphatically he put Schnell away here. He got the better of the back-and-forth exchanges in Round 1 before closing the show with a left hand early in Round 2. We've only seen Erceg three times inside the Octagon, and he has yet to face a truly quality opponent (Schnell, Alessandro Costa, David Dvorak), but the guy simply knows how to fight. He doesn't make mistakes or seem overwhelmed by the moment and has no significant weaknesses in his game. The 28-year-old Aussie has earned a step up in competition his next time out. In the meantime, he'll walk away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.
Scheduled against Schnell again

February 4, 2024
Erceg is scheduled to compete against Matt Schnell in a flyweight fight at UFC Vegas 87 on March 2, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Before defeating Alessandro Costa via unanimous decision at UFC 295 in New York City, Erceg was supposed to fight Matt Schnell at the event before he withdrew. The two have re-scheduled a fight against each other, only this time at a smaller Vegas event.

Erceg defeated Alessandro Costa via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 295 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Erceg's UFC run has lasted all of two fights and five months. It's an extremely small sample size, but the early returns are encouraging. He's very big for the flyweight division at 5-foot-8, and while Erceg doesn't have elite athleticism or above-average power, his fight IQ appears extremely high. This was far from a flawless performance, but Erceg seems to process things inside the Octagon quickly, which helped him get by a tough opponent in Costa. Still just 28 years of age, there's time for Erceg to make a run at 125 pounds.

Erceg will face off against Alessandro Costa at UFC 295 on Nov. 11, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Erceg will take on Alessandro Costa at UFC 295 after Matt Schnell withdrew due to undisclosed reasons. The 28-year-old Australian fighter won his UFC debut against David Dvorak in June and will look to stay undefeated in his second bout.
