Quiet in wild-card loss
Wilson secured one of two targets for six yards during the Dolphins' 26-7 wild-card loss to Kansas City on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had a quiet end to an underwhelming 2023 campaign in which he racked up 188 rushing yards on 41 carries (4.6 average) across 10 regular-season appearances, plus 14 catches for 85 yards on 17 targets. Despite missing the first six games of the season to rib and finger injuries and seeing a substantial downtick in total production, Wilson's end-of-year efficiency metrics still stand out, and his versatility makes him a valuable depth piece for Miami behind Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane. Wilson's set to make $3 million in 2024 on the final season of his current contract, but the Dolphins could cut him loose this offseason while only incurring a $782,500 dead-cap hit, meaning that in order to stay with the team he will likely have to negotiate a restructure.

Could benefit from move
Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com identifies Wilson as one player who could benefit from a change of scenery this offseason.
ANALYSIS
The veteran back simply doesn't have a path to appreciable opportunities in Miami, where Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane have a firm grip on the top two spots of the running back depth chart. Wilson proved he had plenty to offer in 2023 while averaging 4.6 yards per carry in limited action, and at 28 years old with six sub-100-carry campaigns in seven pro seasons, he should have plenty of tread on his tires.

Wilson played for Mike McDaniel four years in San Francisco and became one of his most trusted players -- so much so that the coach convinced the front office to trade a fifth-round pick after Week 8 last year to acquire the veteran back. He started well for Miami, totaling 267 yards in his first three games and averaging 5.4 yards per carry, but a hip injury slowed him in the middle of the season and Raheem Mostert took over more work. The Dolphins re-signed Wilson to a two-year, $5.99 million deal with his 2023 pay almost fully guaranteed, suggesting McDaniel has a substantial role in mind again. Although lacking the speed of Raheem Mostert and third-round pick De'Von Achane, the 27-year-old Wilson holds a weight advantage -- about eight pounds more than Mostert and 25 more than the rookie. That doesn't make the 6-foot Wilson much of a power back at just 213 pounds, but he might be the closest thing the Dolphins have to one this season. He'll first need to complete his recovery from abdomen and finger injuries, with a stint on injured reserve ruling him out for the first four games of the season.
